Wale Edun, Director-General of the Economy and Minister of Finance of Nigeria, has been designated by the World Bank as the African Governors’ Forum’s Chairman.
The ministry reported on its X page that Edun’s appointment signifies a first of its kind in Nigeria, as stated in a statement.
“The appointment affords Nigeria a singular opportunity to advance the Renewed Hope Agenda, which President Tinubu has initiated,” the statement continues.
"The African Governors’ Forum of the World Bank has appointed Mr. Wale Edun, Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance of Nigeria (FinMinNigeria), to the position of Chair.
Nigeria has not held the position of Chairman for the past six decades.
Africa’s central bank governors and finance ministers convene at the African Governors’ Forum to discuss matters of mutual concern with the World Bank.
