The national team coach of Cameroon, Marc Brys, is a Belgian who was named to replace Rigobert Song, the country’s sports ministry said on Tuesday.
Over his career, the 61-year-old has coached 15 clubs in Saudi Arabia, the Netherlands, and Belgium.
His final position was with Leuven for three years.
Francois Omam-Biyik, a former forward for Cameroon who scored 26 goals for his country between 1985 and 1998, will be Brys’ assistant coach.
He takes over a side that Nigeria eliminated from the recent Africa Cup of Nations in the round of 16.
Cameroon defeated Mauritius and drew away from Libya to take the lead in Group D of the African qualification tournament for the 2026 World Cup.
Following the AFCON exit, Samuel Eto’o, the head of the Cameroonian football association, decided not to renew Song’s contract.
