Burna Boy, a Grammy-winning Nigerian musician also known as Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, has received four nominations for the 2023 Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards.
Multiple-award-winning vocalists will compete against Drake, Chris Brown, The Weekend, and Usher in the Best Male R&B/Pop Artist category, according to a list published by BET on its social media channels.
Burna Boy will also compete against Asap Rocky, Dave Free & Kendrick Lamar, and Director X in the category of Video Director of the Year for his work on the visual interpretation of the monster hit single Last.
The self-proclaimed African colossus also received two nominations in the Viewer’s Choice and Best International Act categories for the song Last Last.
Tems, an additional Grammy-winning Nigerian artist, has received three nominations, including one for Best Female R&B/Pop Artist.
Tems also shares two nominations with Future and Drake for their collaboration on “Wait for You,” which is nominated for Best Collaboration and Viewer’s Choice.
In addition, she shared two nominations with Future and Drake for the song “Wait for You,” which is nominated for Best Collaboration and Viewers’ Choice.
Asake and Ayra Starr each received a nomination.
Asake will compete in the Viewer’s Choice category for Best New International Act, while Ayra Starr will take on Burna Boy in the category for best international act.
The BET Awards is an annual award ceremony that honors black entertainers in music, film, sports, and philanthropy. It is produced by the Black Entertainment Television network.
