Several members of Barcelona’s squad have been afflicted by a stomach virus, causing the club to suspend its upcoming friendly against Juventus.
Saturday, the club announced this information on its official website.
Barca’s first preseason exhibition in the United States of America was scheduled to take place tonight at Levi’s Stadium in California, according to the Barca Universal website.
"FC Barcelona hereby announces that the match against Juventus FC scheduled for tonight, July 22, at 7:30 PM at Levi’s Stadium as part of the Soccer Champions Tour has been suspended.
“A significant portion of the Blaugrana squad is afflicted with viral gastroenteritis,” read the club’s statement.
In the United States, training had been taking place for the past few days, and the upcoming match appeared to be on schedule.
However, it appears that several players in the squad have been infected with a stomach virus, prompting the La Liga champions to cancel the match against Juventus.
On the first day of training in the United States, Jules Kounde missed sessions due to a stomach illness.
It is unclear who in the squad is affected by the issue and how many players are affected overall. However, Toni Juanmarti reports that approximately eight to nine celebrities may be afflicted.
The Catalans’ next match will be against Arsenal on Wednesday at the SoFi Stadium, and presumably the players will be healthy by then.
