Fire destroys the 10-story Mandilas Building in Lagos

On Sunday, a substantial fire ravaged the Mandilas Building, a renowned ten-story structure situated on Broad Street, Lagos Island. The devastation caused by the flames consumed goods and assets valued at multiple millions of naira.

At approximately 1.15 p.m., when merchants were not operating, an eyewitness reported that the incident transpired.

Margaret Adeseye, the director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, denied any reports of casualties resulting from the incident.

Initial reports indicated that the fire originated in a first-floor warehouse before spreading to other levels of the structure.

Police, members of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, the State Fire and Rescue Service, LASEMA, and other emergency personnel rushed to the location to extinguish the raging blaze.

Rescue operations were still ongoing at the time of publication, making it impossible to determine the source of the fire.

Observed later storming the scene were distressed merchants salvaging as much of their merchandise and other valuable items as they could.
