G7 expresses support for Israel and vows to take action in response to any further destabilization caused by Iran

The G7 leaders expressed their strong disapproval of Iran’s attack on Israel and reiterated their unwavering support for Israel’s security during a meeting focused on this matter on Sunday.

The leaders of the Group of Seven Powers expressed their strong condemnation of Iran’s direct and unprecedented attack against Israel in a statement issued after a video meeting.

The statement published by the Italian G7 presidency expresses unwavering solidarity and support for Israel and its people while reaffirming a strong commitment to its security.

Iran’s actions have increased the risk of destabilizing the region and potentially causing a dangerous escalation. Avoiding this is crucial.

Our focus remains on stabilizing the situation and preventing any further escalation.

“We strongly urge Iran and its proxies to immediately halt their attacks. We are prepared to take additional actions both now and in the future to counter any further destabilizing actions.”

The attack was carried out by Iran, marking the first time they have directly targeted Israeli territory. This was seen as a response to a recent air strike, which many believe was orchestrated by Israel, destroying Iran’s consular building in Syria’s capital.

The attack occurred amidst the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza.

The G7, consisting of the United States, Japan, Germany, France, Britain, Italy, and Canada, announced on Sunday their commitment to intensify efforts in resolving the ongoing crisis.

They expressed their commitment to enhancing collaboration to resolve the crisis in Gaza. This includes ongoing efforts to achieve a prompt and lasting ceasefire, secure the release of hostages held by Hamas, and provide greater humanitarian aid to Palestinians in dire circumstances.

The Israel-Hamas conflict started with a devastating October 7 assault by the militant group on Israel, leading to the tragic loss of 1,170 lives, predominantly innocent civilians, as reported by an AFP calculation based on Israeli data.

According to the territory’s Hamas-run health ministry, the retaliatory offensive by Israel has resulted in the unfortunate loss of many lives in Gaza, with a significant number being women and children.
