The Nigerian Oscars Selection Committee has selected Genevieve Nnaji’s’ Lionheart’ as the country’s entry to the Oscars 2020 International Feature Film category.
Since the inauguration of the NOSC in 2014, this is the first time that a film from Nigeria has advanced to the Oscar, as previous entries received by the Committee did not meet the basic criteria.
Among the films that were received this year, the NOSC said it had chosen’ Lionheart’ for its considerable shots at the rules.
The 12-man team boasts of Nigeria’s leading international film industry stakeholders.
Each year, each nation outside of the United States is expected to send one film as long as it is not mainly in English.
Movies in pidgin, which must be subtitled just like any other language film, are also considered in this category.
Formerly known as ‘Best Foreign Language Film ‘, last year, 87 nations competed for short spots and from the final five Oscar nominations,’ Roma,’ a Mexican film directed by Alfonso Cuarón won the award.
