Osun State Government Chief Judge, CJ, Justice Adepele Ojo, has been removed from office.
Justice Olayinka David Afolabi assumed the role of acting chief judge in her stead.
Thursday, Olawale Rasheed, a spokesman for Governor Ademola Adeleke, issued a statement disclosing this information.
As per the statement, Justice Afolabi was appointed as Acting Chief Justice with immediate effect after the Osun State House of Assembly passed a resolution approving the appointment.
“Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, has promptly installed Justice Olayinka David Afolabi as the acting chief judge after the House of Assembly’s approval of the resolution.”
The dismissal of Justice Ojo as Chief Justice follows widespread rumors that the state government intended to remove her from her position.
Certain civil society organizations brought the speculations to the state government’s attention on Wednesday.
In response, however, the state administration refuted the rumors via Commissioner for Information and Enlightenment Kolapo Alimi.
Additionally, the state government insisted that no government official within the state has authority beyond state law.
