The policy meeting will approve the start of this year’s admissions.

The Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) stated that all procedures have been put in place to begin admission into the country’s higher institutions.

It also announced that the long-awaited annual policy conference in 2024 will take place on Thursday.

This was announced in the board’s weekly news broadcast, which appeared on X on Monday.

According to the bulletin, Tahir Mamman, Minister of Education, will preside over the 2024 policy meeting, which will take place on July 18 in Abuja.

The policy meeting will approve the start of this year’s admissions.

According to the bulletin, this year’s exercise will also include the National Tertiary Admissions’ Performance-Merit Award, or NATAP-M Awards, with the overall winner receiving N500 million and the other consolation winners sharing N250 million individually.

"The policy meeting, normally attended by vice-chancellors of universities, rectors of polytechnics, mono-technics, and innovative enterprise institutions, provosts of colleges of education, and other essential stakeholders, will evaluate and approve the guidelines for the 2024 admission exercise.

"The meeting will assess the performance of candidates in the 2023 admissions procedure as well as the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

"The meeting will adopt the minimum admission scores, which are an aggregate of individual institution submissions.

"This is not a cut-off mark, as is sometimes misunderstood, but rather a minimum score that no institution should fall below. The decisions reached during the meeting, presided over by the Minister of Education, serve as guiding criteria for admission and are a collaborative decision, not merely that of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB.

"No institution is anticipated to begin the admission process until after the policy meeting, as the guidelines governing the year’s admission exercise are established at the meeting with the Minister of Education’s approval.

“The gathering proclaims the start of the year’s admissions exercise and establishes the broad rules; any institution that violates these collective norms will face consequences.”
