The election of Dr. Alex Otti, the candidate for governor of Abia and member of the Labour Party, LP, was not declared invalid by a Federal High Court.
The Kano LP candidates who ran in the general election of 2023, according to the court, were not legitimately elected.
The certificate of return given to all LP candidates deemed victors in Kano and the 35 states of the Federation, including the FCT, Abuja, was issued, according to DAILY POST, and Ibrahim Haruna-Ibrahim had filed an application asking the court to annul and set aside the certificate.
Despite the conflicting responses to the ruling, Justice Nasir-Yunusa ruled that the Abia candidates who ran in the recently held general elections were not parties to the lawsuit.
According to Nasir-Yunusa, the court merely ruled that the Labour Party’s primary election in Kano State was invalid.
"This court does not have the authority to mandate the issuance of a certificate of return.
They are free to seek justice in the proper judicial division, he said.
