According to French media, France captain Kylian Mbappe will become the primary owner of Caen, a second-tier team.
Mbappe, 25, who joined Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain last summer, will pay 20 million euros ($21.6 million) to acquire an 80% stake in the Normandy club from American investors Oaktree, according to newspaper Le Parisien.
The 2018 World Cup winner nearly joined Caen as a teenager before signing with Monaco.
Caen finished sixth in Ligue 2 last season, and among their past players are Mbappe’s France teammate N’Golo Kante and former Les Bleus defender William Gallas.
The two-time Ligue 2 winners, founded in 1913, will kick off the new season on August 17 against Paris FC.
