Mercy Aigbe, a Nigerian actress, has changed her name and told people that she has become a Muslim.
The actress’s husband, Kazeem Adeoti, gave a Ramadan lecture and special prayer where she talked about her new faith.
“Hajiya Minnah Mercy Adeoti is my new name, God willing,” she said.
In January 2022, Mercy told everyone that Kazeem was her husband.
The actress became famous after Kazeem’s first wife said she stole her husband from her.
But Kazeem had a good reason to marry a second wife.
He said that Islam allows polygamy as long as the man who has more than one wife takes care of them and treats them with respect.
He went on to say that he had no choice because his first wife had gone to the U.S. for good.
“I can see why my first wife doesn’t like the idea of me getting a second wife, but she gave me no choice when she moved to the US for good,” he had said.
"I’m a Muslim, and Islam says I can have more than one wife as long as I take care of them and don’t hurt them.
“I can stand in front of God and people and say that as a man, I did my best not to hurt them.”
