Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, formally steps down

Simon Lalong, the Minister of Labour and Employment, formally submitted his resignation to President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday.

Lalong is relinquishing the position in order to assume the office of Senator Representing the Plateau South Senatorial District in the Senate.

In a statement signed by Special Adviser to the departing Minister on Media, Dr. Makut Simon Macham, his resignation was formally acknowledged.

The letter was reportedly delivered to Tinubu on Tuesday, December 19, 2023.

Lalong elaborated that the Court of Appeal affirmed his election as the senator duly elected to represent the Plateau South Senatorial District following an exhaustive legal process. The Court further instructed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to furnish him with the Certificate of Return.

He expressed gratitude to the president for the appointment of minister.

“Nevertheless, following thorough deliberations, it has been deemed practical for him to proceed with assuming his seat in the Red Chambers in order to further contribute to the Renewed Hope agenda put forth by the President,” he further stated.
