Nigeria has been declared the winner of the International Cricket Council’s Cricket Initiative of the Year 2023 in Africa. The PwC National U-17 Championship, which has been running for five years, has played a significant role in this achievement.
The country was recognized by the ICC for its exceptional performance both on and off the field during the year under review, joining the ranks of 21 celebrated nations.
The ICC Development Initiative of the Year award acknowledges the exceptional development initiatives carried out during the year. Regional winners, such as the Nigeria Cricket Federation, have been recognized for their U-17 Cricket Championship, which has successfully provided competitive playing opportunities for boys and girls nationwide, as stated by the ICC in a recent statement.
Nigeria and other regional winners from other continents will now be entered into the voting process to determine the global awardees in each category.
The NCF president, Uyi Akpata, expressed his delight at receiving the award, emphasizing its perfect timing.
