President Bola Tinubu has given his approval for a new minimum wage of N70,000 for Nigerian workers. Additionally, he has committed to regularly reviewing the national minimum wage law every three years.
This follows a meeting between the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress with the President at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Thursday.
In a statement on X, Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, confirmed the development.
President Bola Tinubu has given his approval for a minimum wage of N70,000 for Nigerian workers, along with a commitment to periodically review the national minimum wage law every three years.
President Tinubu has made a commitment to support the private sector and sub-nationals in meeting the minimum wage requirements.
“The decisions were announced by President Tinubu during the meeting with leaders of TUC and NLC in Abuja. This was the second time the parties had met in 7 days,” the statement stated.
According to Onanuga, labour leaders commended President Tinubu for his compassionate action, and the President promised to use his executive authority to resolve the issue of unpaid salaries for university unions.
