Real Madrid secured their sixth UEFA Super Cup title with a 2-0 victory over Atalanta in Warsaw, thanks to a debut goal from Kylian Mbappé. The French forward, who joined Real Madrid this summer after leaving Paris Saint-Germain, marked his first appearance with a crucial strike.
Fede Valverde opened the scoring for the Champions League holders in the 59th minute after a closely contested first half, where the Italian side held firm. As Madrid gained momentum, Mbappé sealed the win in the 68th minute, finishing off a move initiated by Jude Bellingham, who spotted his run into the box.
This victory also allowed coach Carlo Ancelotti to tie with former Real Madrid coach Miguel Muñoz for a record 14 titles at the club. Ancelotti is now tasked with finding the best system to utilize his talented attacking lineup, with Mbappé starting in the center of the forward line alongside Vinícius Júnior and Rodrygo.
Although Mbappé had limited chances in the first half, he made a significant impact as the match progressed. Atalanta, playing in their first Super Cup after winning the Europa League, nearly took the lead when Eder Militao narrowly avoided an own goal. However, Real Madrid’s goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, returning from injury, made a key save to keep the score level.
After Valverde’s goal, Madrid continued to press, and despite several blocked attempts and saves by Atalanta’s goalkeeper Juan Musso, Mbappé finally doubled the lead with a well-taken goal, earning applause from the fans as he was substituted in the 83rd minute.
