Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelloti believes that Sunday’s El-Clasico between Real Madrid and Barcelona will be a fiercely contested and evenly matched game.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for us to make progress towards winning La Liga, although we are aware of the challenges as Barcelona is a highly competitive team,” stated the Italian.

Ancelotti mentioned that defender Ferland Mendy needed an extra day of rest due to fatigue after the victory against City. However, the rest of his squad is in good shape, aside from the long-term absentees.

Real Madrid has set their sights on achieving a remarkable league and Champions League double, a feat they have accomplished four times in the past.

“The cake is prepared and we have to put the cherry on top this month,” Ancelotti stated. “We are in a strong position.”

Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez expressed admiration for rivals Real Madrid ahead of their highly anticipated El-Clasico clash in La Liga on Sunday.

Currently, Los Blancos are leading the Spanish top flight by eight points, putting champions Barcelona in a position where they must secure a victory at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday in order to have any hope of retaining the trophy.

Xavi acknowledged the quality of the record 14-time winners after Barcelona’s exit from the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain and Madrid’s victory over Manchester City.

During a news conference on Saturday, Xavi expressed his admiration for the opposing team, acknowledging their skill and highlighting their status as a formidable opponent. He also mentioned that having experienced numerous victories, his team now approaches matches with a sense of calm, confidence, and less desperation.

Ultimately, it is often attributed to luck, but I personally place little faith in luck. I believe it is the result of dedicated effort, defensive work, and the remarkable solidarity displayed by everyone involved, with each individual putting in their utmost effort.

“The three up front put in a tremendous effort, while Man City had some missed opportunities, which is just part of the game. It’s no coincidence that Real Madrid has eliminated the best team in the world twice in three years.”

Xavi expressed his determination to continue fighting in La Liga, despite the considerable advantage held by Real Madrid.

“This game is crucial for us, as it holds significant importance in our season. A victory is necessary to apply pressure on the current leader,” he emphasized.

Real Madrid is truly impressive, having only lost one game out of 31. Their numbers are truly extraordinary and we have great respect for them.

“Our numbers in La Liga are not bad, as we currently have four points less than when we were leading at this stage last season.”
