Ronaldo was left devastated after his penalty miss against Slovenia

Cristiano Ronaldo was overcome with emotion and shed tears after failing to convert a penalty during extra-time in Portugal’s Euro 2024 last 16 match against Slovenia on Monday.

Ronaldo had an opportunity to give Portugal the lead towards the end of the first period of extra time in a tightly contested, scoreless match in Frankfurt.

The 39-year-old confidently stepped up to take the spot-kick after a foul on Diogo Jota, but unfortunately, his effort was superbly saved by Jan Oblak.

Ronaldo was taken aback when Oblak managed to save his shot, holding his head in disbelief after successfully scoring his previous 29 penalties.

Ronaldo, who had successfully converted his last 29 penalties, was left in utter shock when Oblak managed to save his shot. He couldn’t believe what he had just witnessed and held his head in disbelief.

Within moments, the halftime whistle blew during extra time, prompting Ronaldo to openly shed tears while surrounded by his fellow Portugal players.

Supported by team-mate Joao Palhinha, Ronaldo found the strength to compose himself and carry on playing once the match resumed.

Portugal supporters erupted into song, chanting “Viva Ronaldo,” as his passionate outburst was displayed on the large screen in the Frankfurt Arena.

Ronaldo, a former player for Manchester United and Real Madrid, has struggled to convert three out of nine penalty kicks during major international tournaments.
