Samuel Umtiti’s contract with Barcelona has been terminated.
In 2016, the Frenchman moved from Lyon to Barcelona, and his early performances in Spain were exceptional.
However, a series of injuries derailed the French defender’s ascension and ultimately pushed him down in the club’s pecking order.
The former France international was sent on loan to Lecce last summer due to his limited playing time over the past few seasons.
The club issued a statement on their website announcing, "FC Barcelona and the player Samuel Umtiti have reached an agreement for the discharge of the player’s contract with the club through the end of the 2025/26 season.
FC Barcelona expresses gratitude to Umtiti and wishes him future success and happiness.
