Today Thursday, 16 March, a Lagos school van carrying one- to five-year-olds somersaulted, injuring the passengers.
Morning mishap in Surulere.
A News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reporter saw the bus with registration number KTU-465DN hit a median barrier and pull off a concrete street light before somersaulting.
Sympathizers drove the wounded children and a caregiver to Topaz Hospital.
The injured bus driver fled the scene, presumably fearing a mob attack.
Doctors and other health workers swiftly treated victims at Topaz Hospital.
Dr. Sanusi Olatunbosun, on duty, later told NAN: “Seven people were in the school bus, three had serious injuries while four had minor injuries.”
Olatunbosun said all victims were treated and observed for two hours before release.
He said the hospital expected the school to pay medical costs.
He said they were conscious and discharged in fine condition.
Olatunbosun urged the school to inform parents to watch for symptoms like dizziness, drowsiness, weakness, and oversleeping.
The accident site youths pushed the school bus out of the road to ease traffic.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency managed traffic at the accident site.
