The world’s highest-paid actor, Dwayne “The Rock”,Johnson, is finally starring in a superhero film.
Johnson announced on Thursday in an Instagram post the release date for Warner Bros. and DC’s “Black Adam.” On December 22, 2021, the film will hit theaters and Johnson called the part “unlike any other one I’ve ever played in my career.” “Black Adam” has been in making for a long time and the wrestler-turned-actor has been teasing his involvement with the project for years.
Johnson responded to a fan on Twitter who suggested that he should play a DC superhero, saying “Funny you would say that.” In July 2014, he stepped up the guessing game by stating that he would soon play a character with “Superman’s Force.” The Associated Press announced a month later that Johnson had decided to play with two characters: Shazam and Black Adam’s nemesis.
In the comics, the powers of both characters come from a similar magic, and sometimes Black Adam was depicted as an anti-hero.
Seven years after his casting was confirmed by Johnson, “Black Adam” will fly into theaters.
Last year, Johnson told Yahoo that DC is “Doing a great job finding the foundation and tone of their movies,” noting that Marvel has done “Awesome universe building work.” “This is a wonderful chance for us to nail the tone and make sure it’s badass,” Johnson said of “Black Adam.” If “Black Adam” is inspired by the comics at all, it will be difficult to ignore the connection between the character and Shazam.
In 2021, after “The Batman” and “The Suicide Squad,” “Black Adam” will be the third DC movie.
