The recent appointments to the governing boards of tertiary institutions have raised concerns about inconsistencies, leading President Bola Tinubu to take decisive action. He has ordered a thorough review of the entire process.
The President, as communicated by his media aide, Bayo Onanuga, on Thursday, emphasized the importance of conducting the review before the inauguration and retreat for the nominees.
It is worth noting that in response to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) expressing concerns about the alleged delays in constituting governing councils, the Federal Ministry of Education has recently announced the nominees for chairmen, pro-Chancellors, and members of the boards and councils of universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

It is worth noting that in response to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) expressing concerns about the perceived delays in forming governing councils, the Federal Ministry of Education has recently announced the nominees for chairmen, pro-Chancellors, and members of the boards and councils of universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
The Ministry, led by Mamman Tahir, was also organizing a retreat for the nominees. Additionally, they had already announced that the inauguration would be held on May 31.
Public reactions may have played a role in sparking the latest directive from the presidency.
There were concerns raised about the nominations not adhering to the Federal Character Principle, with certain states receiving only one nomination while others received multiple.
Tinubu recognized the feedback from across the country and directed a comprehensive review of the list of members.
According to Onanuga, Tinubu is dedicated to upholding the principle of federal character as stated in the Constitution.
“The review will also consider the representation of every part of the country to ensure adequate national spread,” stated Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.
