According to PUNCH Sports Extra, Victor Osimhen, the Nigeria international, has been selected for the 2023/24 Serie A Team of The Season after another outstanding performance with Napoli.
Osimhen was included in the 23-man list that was announced on the official social media channels of the Italian Serie A.
Although his performance during the 2022/23 season, where he finished as the Serie A top scorer with 26 goals and led Napoli to their first Scudetto title in over three decades, was exceptional, Osimhen’s current numbers are still respectable given Napoli’s recent struggles.
Despite the former champions’ disappointing season with 11 losses and only 13 wins, the striker, who was absent for a month due to his participation with the Super Eagles at the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast earlier this year, impressively scored 15 goals and provided three assists in 24 league games.
Despite his lackluster performance, Osimhen continues to be Napoli’s leading scorer and ranks third in the top-flight league.
It’s worth noting that Osimhen’s goal tally in the Italian topflight was surpassed only by Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martínez (24 goals) and Juventus’s Dušan Vlahović (16).
Martínez, Vlahović, and Osimhen have all been recognized for their outstanding contributions by being named to the Serie Team of the Season.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, a teammate of Osimhen at Napoli, is also included in the mix.
Sunday’s match against Lecce may mark Osimhen’s final outing for Napoli, as the talented Lagos-born striker has garnered interest from numerous prominent European clubs.
Meanwhile, despite his exceptional performance for Atalanta, Ademola Lookman was unfortunately not allowed to shine.
In 29 Serie A games, the 26-year-old made an impressive 15-goal contributions, with nine goals and six assists.
Samuel Chukwueze’s AC Milan teammates Christian Pulisic, Theo Hernandez, Olivier Giroud, and Rafael Leao joined Osimhen on the prestigious list, while Chukwueze unfortunately missed out.
